No peppers, no tears!

It’s believed in the Hmong culture that when a son or daughter gets married, it’s best avoiding consumption of any kind of spicy pepper during this time. While other family members can eat pepper, the bride and groom are strictly forbidden to eating it. If they should consume pepper during this day, it’s believed that their life ahead will be a life with lots of tears and heartache. To show respect to these newlyweds, the entire family, as a whole, may avoid eating pepper on this day.

**(The Hmong commonly consume pepper, grounded, in the form of a dip, with their meat dishes)
